Fading is not always failure
A coating can lose color intensity before it starts peeling. Appearance goals often determine when a repaint makes sense.
Touch-ups may show
Older exterior paint can weather enough that a fresh patch is visibly different even when the original color formula is known.
Combine appearance with condition
Inspect caulk joints, exposed wood, peeling areas and other signs of coating wear before deciding whether a full repaint is warranted.
